the story so far
jpilot running well on gentoo system
udev rule
# create symlink for palm pilot
BUS=="usb", SYSFS{manufacturer}=="Palm, Inc.", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*",
NAME="ttyUSB%n", SYMLINK="pilot", GROUP="usb", MODE="0666"
10-visor.rules lines 1-2/2 (END)
<stupid error> decided to use portage version </stupid error>
remove portage version
install from tarball v 0.99.9.22
was syncing on /dev/ttyUSB0
sync on /dev/pilot managed one or two times
now can't manage to sync at all
whether /dev/pilot or /dev/ttyUSB0,1,23
/dev/pilot is only happening on the odd numbers - and I always sync'ed on the
even numbers
mums rules.d # ls -la /dev/pilot
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2008-05-03 17:14 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB1
mums rules.d # ls -la /dev/pilot
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2008-05-03 17:16 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB1
mums rules.d # ls -la /dev/pilot
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2008-05-03 17:29 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB3
mums rules.d # ls -la /dev/pilot
has anyone a suggestion as to why it does and then it doesn't sync??

Law of Communications:
The inevitable result of improved and enlarged communications
between different levels in a hierarchy is a vastly increased
area of misunderstanding.
