Re-reading this, I think I pointed in a somewhat misleading direction.
kdepim and gnome-pilot are under-the-hood bits of software that you
wouldn't necessarily see directly.  The applications that use them, which
you _would_ see, and which you would start up to sync your pilot are
Kontact (if you use the KDE desktop) or Evolution (if you use Gnome).  See
if you can start up either of those.
