Your response raises at least one very critical question for me: Then, what the heck happened to my system when I installed Slack 12 from scratch (yes, I formatted the install partition as well as swap the partition - no other Linux partitions exist)? Indeed, this list is NOT a linux distribution list - hence, I intend to hit other more appropriate lists such as LinuxQuestions.org for (in/direct) answers.
