This sounds like a different problem. If the device itself times out
appropriately, you'll see this message:
"The connection between your handheld computer and the
desktop could not be established. Please check your setup
and try again."
In your case, I'd do a soft-reset on your PDA, and try again. I've seen
Palm device's ports get "wedged" before, and a soft-reset clears it.
