    Additionally, it seems that an Edgy -> Feisty upgraded machine behaves
    VERY differently than a cleanly-installed Feisty machine in this

    Can someone who has this "anomalous" version please find out what they
    did differently? Is visor blacklisted by default now on Feisty? Is there
    some other udev trickery that they've implemented that we don't know

    It happens quite a bit. I've seen patches to J-Pilot, pilot-link and
    other related projects end up in distribution binaries, which we still
    to this day, have never seen reported as bugs or have had those patches
    sent upstream to us. 
    
    Shrug. We can't fix bugs or issues we don't know exist.
