I did as Nick suggested. I compared the ~/.jpilot/jpilot.rc files of both main account and test account. Here are (what I think are) the essential differences: Main: port usb: Test: port Main: user user_id 0 pc_id 823100504 Test: user jclie user_id 43928547 pc_id 1968348659 I ran "diff main_pilot.rc test_pilot.rc" in terminal and got this: diff main_jpilot.rc clie10_jpilot.rc 10c10 < port usb: --- > port 12,14c12,14 < user < user_id 0 < pc_id 823100504 --- > user jclie > user_id 43928547 > pc_id 1968348659 16,20c16,20 < window_width 659 < window_height 557 < datebook_pane 305 < address_pane 290 < todo_pane 525 --- > window_width 747 > window_height 625 > datebook_pane 291 > address_pane 340 > todo_pane 370 23c23 < last_app 101 --- > last_app 100 35c35 < output_height 111 --- > output_height 60 82c82 < datebook_note_pane 67 --- > datebook_note_pane 88 I will try editing my main account's jpilot.rc and making it similar to the test account's jpilot.rc file to see if it works. In the meantime, I send this email. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In test account (working Jpilot sync), running "jpilot-sync -d" gives: clie10 at jc-amd:~$ jpilot-sync -d Debug messages on. opening dir /usr/lib/jpilot/plugins/ opening dir /home/clie10/.jpilot/plugins/ setting PILOTRATE=[9600] pref port=[] num_backups=2 sync:calling load_plugins opening dir /usr/lib/jpilot/plugins/ opening dir /home/clie10/.jpilot/plugins/ **************************************** Syncing on device /dev/pilot Press the HotSync button now **************************************** Username is "jclie" User ID is 43928547 lastSyncPC = 1968348659 This PC = 1968348659 Last Username = [jclie] Last UserID = 43928547 Username = [jclie] userID = 43928547 lastSyncPC = 1968348659 passwordLength = 0 userPassword = [09021345070413440c08135a3215135dd217ead3b5df556322e9a14a994b0f88] Doing a fast sync. fast_sync_application DatebookDB Syncing DatebookDB fast_sync_local_recs new pc record Writing PC record to palm Writing PC record to local pi_file_modify_record pdb_file_count_recs sync_categories for AddressDB unpack_address_cai_from_ai readappblock r=638 unpack_address_cai_from_ai pack_address_cai_into_ai fast_sync_application AddressDB Syncing AddressDB fast_sync_local_recs pdb_file_count_recs sync_categories for ToDoDB unpack_todo_cai_from_ai readappblock r=282 unpack_todo_cai_from_ai pack_todo_cai_into_ai fast_sync_application ToDoDB Syncing ToDoDB fast_sync_local_recs pdb_file_count_recs sync_categories for MemoDB unpack_memo_cai_from_ai readappblock r=282 unpack_memo_cai_from_ai pack_memo_cai_into_ai fast_sync_application MemoDB Syncing MemoDB fast_sync_local_recs pdb_file_count_recs sync_fetch flags=0x8, num_backups=2, fast=1 fetch_extra_DBs() Found extra DB Fetching 'Saved Preferences' (Creator ID 'psys')...
