Hello there everyone! You may remember that I could not sync my Palm Zire 71. Several of you went to considerable effort before Christmas to help me solve my problem, in vain. I became discouraged, envisaged moving back to Windows, but ended up staying with Linux and syncing my Zire on Windows once a week, to have a backup. Not a satisfactory solution, since, when using my laptop, I could not use J-Pilot to add or modify tasks, contacts or rendez-vous. Yesterday I happened to come across a discussion on syncing Palm on Ubuntu and read that acting as root could sometimes solve the problem. http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-77387.html This morning I tried that and to my amazement it worked! I could hardly believe my eyes! I tried it again and it worked again! This seems to be the answer to my prayers! I sincerely hope that this will help some other people solve their problem too. root at eamann-laptop:/home/eamann# jpilot removing stale pidfile There remain several minor issues on which I would like to ask your advice and help: First, when the sync is finished, my hard disk starts to whine and I have to use ps ax | grep jpilot and then kill one of the processes. Can anyone suggest what I should do to stop this happening? eamann at eamann-laptop:~$ ps ax | grep jpilot 7228 pts/0 S+ 0:06 jpilot 7575 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/bin/jpilot-sync 7576 ? Secondly, when the sync is finished I can no longer use my terminal and I have to open a new tab and paste ps ax | grep jpilot into it: ps ax | grep jpilot ^[[D (these characters represent my use of the arrows) Thirdly, if I close J-Pilot, opened as root, and then re-open it as a normal user, the version that appears has not been synced. How can I open as a normal user the version of J-Pilot that has been synced? Thank you once more to those of you who went to such pains to try and help me! Best wishes, Eamann O Ruairc
