Oh, after installing pilot-xfer about 20 minutes ago, I also tried

     pilot-xfer -b zirepda
and the printout also mentions /dev/pilot problem:
    ----start of printout----
No $PILOTPORT specified and no -p <port> given.
       Defaulting to '/dev/pilot'
ERROR: No such file or directory (2)

Error accessing: '/dev/pilot'. Does '/dev/pilot' exist?
Please use --help for more information
    -----end of printout----

is this pilot-xfer issue related to my jpilot syncing issue?

do i need to remove pilot-xfer?

    i use xubuntu (xfce)
