No, J-Pilot and Evolution are two separate and independent projects, and they don't share data or communicate with each other. > Ideally I would like to have the data on the Treo shared in both > J-pilot and evolution although this would be more than is possible > on the Win version. Can this be done? Are there any plans for it? You'll have to sync twice, and be *VERY VERY VERY* careful with how you do it to avoid duplicates or other weirdness. They're not written from the same codebase, so their sync algorithms will not be identical. You'll need to make sure you sync each of these in the same *EXACT* way, every time. I'd also recommend buying a copy of UnDupe from StevensCreek Software. > !!******!!!!@!$$$* the problems began! This would be equivalent to replacing a critical Win98 DLL file with a WinXP DLL file, and expecting Win98 to continue to run and operate as if nothing had changed. You can't do that. Your Samsung is not compatible with your Treo, and the .prc files (more-specifically the "system-specific" .prc files) can't be transposed. > I have stabilised the phone by restoring from Win backup I took but > it has then taken me serveral hours to clean out duplicated data > etc. Again, expected behavior. Your Samsung and Treo are not compatible, and when you sync around 3 different applications like J-Pilot, Evolution and Windows... things get weird. Trust me on this, I sync my Treo650 to J-Pilot, KPilot, Evolution and two Windows machines (personal/Win2k/Outlook and business/WinXP/Lotus Notes)... things get weird fast, and you have to stay on top of it, and BACKUP often! > I assume that using both J-Pilot and evolution synch on the same > machine is not a problem? No, it can be... they're not compatible, and will reset the LastSyncPC record on your Treo, so the next time you sync to the other, it will see the Palm as being "out of date", and try to do a Slow Sync again... how each app handles sync and Slow Sync can differ, and cause some inconsistencies. > Sorry to go into so much detail but J-Pilot looks to be a good > solution and I would like to use it as a replacement for the Win > desktop but only if I have the confidence that it is not going to > cause me similar problems in the future. Why are you using the others then? Just use one, and stick with it. David A. Desrosiers desrod at gnu-designs.com http://gnu-designs.com
