I just realized I did have a problem.

This symlink gets created when I hit the sync button on the cradle:

    carl at vaio:~$ ls -l /dev/pilot
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2006-07-06 09:12 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB1

    dmesg:
    [17248341.436000] visor 2-2:1.0: device disconnected
[17248469.808000] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
[17248469.952000] visor 2-2:1.0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected
[17248469.952000] usb 2-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to
    ttyUSB0
[17248469.952000] usb 2-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to
    ttyUSB1
    [17248477.380000] usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 4
[17248477.380000] visor ttyUSB0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now
    disconnected from ttyUSB0
[17248477.380000] visor ttyUSB1: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now
    disconnected from ttyUSB1

In jpilot, File, Prefs, Settings I set the port to /dev/ttyUSB0

which you can also do in
    carl at vaio:~$ vi .jpilot/jpilot.rc
    port /dev/ttyUSB0

Hope this is what you need.

    Carl
